Summer is vastly approaching in Los Angeles which means KCRW’s Summer Nights are set to return! Finally, Angelenos can dance the warm night away once again with KCRW’s best DJs and musical guests. As always, their beloved Summer Nights are totally free and found at favorite L.A. locations like Descanso Gardens, Chinatown, CAAM, and more! Depending on the spot, you can usually expect some food choices and museum/garden admissions. Regardless of the location though, good times are certainly in store. Secret Los Angeles
KCRW Summer Nights with LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes! An evening of Cumbia from across the continent. Curated by music journalist Betto Arcos, CUMBIA SOMOS will showcase the rich and diverse sounds of cumbia from its origins in the region known as Montes de María, Colombia, to the urban centers of every Latin American city, including Los Angeles. Bring your dancing shoes, this is an evening that celebrates the most popular dance style in the continent. Jul 13 • 6:00 pm PDT The evening will unfold in four different parts: Presentation and talk about the book SOMOS CUMBIA, with music journalists Jaime Andrés Monsalve from Colombia, Enrique Blanc from Mexico and host-curator Betto Arcos; Jaime Andrés Monsalve will comment on the origins of cumbia and introduce the first group, Eduardo Palo Cuero; Betto Arcos will comment on the spread of Cumbia across the continent and introduce cumbia band El Conjunto Nueva Ola ECNO, and finally, Enrique Blanc comments on the significance of the Sonidero culture and introduces Sonidero Luis “La Rumba” Noriega and KCRW DJ Wyldeflower.

CicLAvia—Heart of L.A. This free event welcomes bikes, tricycles, skateboards, strollers and basically anything else without an engine to ride a rotating cast of car-free routes. This Sunday’s “Heart of L.A.” event opens 7.5 miles of streets spanning Downtown (including the 6th Street Viaduct), Echo Park and Little Tokyo, among other neighborhoods. Expect music, street performances and food trucks, as well as general whimsy and shenanigans along the way. It goes without saying that you should bike or take the Metro to your desired spot along the route. Until Dec 8, 2024
