Secret Los Angeles
Leo’s Tacos Truck Late night food truck tacos are practically in their own culinary category in L.A., and Leo’s makes some of the best of the best. What started as a humble taco truck on Brea and Venice Boulevards has turned into a local chain with eleven locations, most of which are open until 2 or 3am on weekends. By far the most popular order is the tacos al pastor, but you’ll find a great selection of Mexican street food including quesadillas, sopes, and tortas. Hours: 6pm-2:30am Friday-Saturday, 6pm-1:30am Sunday-Thursday
Secret Los Angeles
Roscoe’s Hollywood Harlem native Herb Hudson opened this Hollywood staple in 1975, and their tasty soul food has been enjoyed by generations of Angelenos and celebrities including Shaquille O’Neil, Stevie Wonder, and Barack Obama. The menu goes beyond the staple chicken and waffles to include classics like corn bread, mac and cheese, and biscuits and gravy. The Hollywood location is open until 4am on weekend nights, but you’ll find a handful of other Roscoe’s outposts in L.A. that are serving food until midnight.

LAX-C is a large Asian supermarket known for its extensive selection of Thai and other Asian groceries. The store, often referred to as “Thai Costco,” offers a variety of products, including fresh produce, meats, seafood, spices, sauces, and packaged goods. Its bulk-buying model provides customers with competitive prices and a broad assortment of goods. LAX-C caters to both individual shoppers and local restaurants, making it a central hub for authentic Asian ingredients and culinary supplies in the area. The store’s layout and offerings reflect its commitment to serving the diverse community of Los Angeles with high-quality, specialty items. I go for their hot foods often bc it’s made fresh and so authentically. All a true taste of Thailand in LA :)

Try their creative pizzas with toppings like Funyuns or shrimp cocktail, and don’t miss Ziskin’s gourmet slab cakes. Staff favorites include their Bar Pie and Vodka Pesto. And yes, expect a line when you get there!
Gluten Free Girls LA
Solar de Cahuenga: One of the best all natural coffee shops and cafes in the heart of Hollywood. Today I ordered the iced Spanish latte w oatmilk (amazing), the moist glutenfree blueberry pound cake (it did have lemon in it, so be aware incase you aren’t a fan of lemon), and the avocado toast with radishes and pick de gallo (ask for GF toast as it’s not on the menu) with breakfast potatoes. My only complaint was that the breakfast potatoes were too salty to eat. I would get fruit instead as my side. Another awesome thing..? The staff is a 10/10. Highly recommend this place which is friendly and provides many non-boring options!
Gluten Free Girls LA
Millie's Cafe is incredible and also vegan friendly! Today I went with the vegan/gluten-free waffles (whipped cream is also vegan).. the texture and flavor was perfect. My mother who isn’t a fan of gluten free texture even approved! You can add chocolate chips, blueberries, bananas, strawberries etc.. I also got a Lavender oat milk latte and vegan sausage. Next time I plan on trying the gluten free pancakes! Will definitely be coming back. 10/10

Gluten Free Girls LA
Kitchen Mouse - the small bakery around the corner from the main restaurant has TONS of gluten free sweets, pastries, bagels and to go food (gf lentil shepards pie and gf lasagna etc). They offer vegan options like just egg or regular egg as it’s a vegetarian restaurant. In the past, I have tried the gluten-free bagels (amazing), gluten-free coffee cake and cookies (also amazing). Today I got the French berry pastry -the vanilla custard was AMAZING. The crust was a great texture but was more like a sugar cookie formed as a tart than a butter tart. I would definitely recommend trying it if you like custard and sugar cookies.
Gluten Free Girls LA
BACARI - a restaurant with so many clearly labeled gluten-free options one doesn’t know what to do! It’s Tapas style, and the portions are small -so expect to order a few dishes. Today I got the caramelized Brussels sprouts w/o crème fresh (gluten free) and the pork chop (able to be made gluten free without the the cornflakes) without the cilantro crème fresh. They are incredibly generous with accommodations and their staff is gracious if any errors are made. The pork chop took longer due to first accidentally being made non-gluten free but they quickly rushed a brand new order so nothing was cross-contaminated. Sadly the pork chop came out a bit saltier than I could eat (from being rushed) They were so kind and apologetic, that they sent a gluten-free Chocolate cake.. THE BEST THING I’VE EATEN IN AGES. I will definitely be coming back to give them a second chance (and get the amazing gluten free chocolate cake again).
The Restaurant Guide
Donna’s LA: Upgraded Italian American classics in a fun, flower-bombed room in Echo Park. Donna’s is inspired by an east coast, red sauce joint. The menu is made up of those Italian-American classics that you expect, but done really well with California ingredients. Here at Donna’s we’re loud and lively, with warm and familiar service. We’ll remind you what comfort feels like. And you’ll have the best night out (since the last time you were here).
Gluten Free Girls LA
Amara kitchen -A farm to table restaurant with two locations in Los Angeles (Highland Park and Altadena). This cozy cafe has multiple CLEARLY marked gluten free options (desserts and main dishes) and is good for celiacs with no cross contamination when mentioned. Today I had the “green eggs” -two poached eggs (I asked for mine over hard), roasted sweet potatoes, mixed greens, avocado, pesto, beet puree, pickled cabbage, pickled carrots and cherry tomatoes, toasted sesame seeds, served with house-made bread whole grain gluten free bread. The house made gluten free bread was fantastic. The eggs and veggies were definitely good, although next time I would probably order something I couldn’t find elsewhere. I also bought their gluten free chocolate chunk cookie which was excellent. They even make a vegan version. Highly recommend this place and will definitely be coming back.

Uncovering Unique Experiences in Downtown Los Angeles
Local Secrets for an Unforgettable Adventure
Travel enthusiasts looking to explore Downtown Los Angeles often find the area bustling with commonly frequented attractions. However, nestled amidst its busy streets and towering buildings are lesser-known spots that offer an authentic taste of the city's diverse culture and history. Whether you're yearning for an underground speakeasy, craving exquisite street food, or searching for a quiet place to relax, these local secrets can take your exploration to the next level.
Hidden Gems of Grand Central Market
No trip to Downtown LA is complete without a visit to the iconic Grand Central Market. While popular eateries like Eggslut and Wexler’s Deli draw large crowds, the market also houses some lesser-known culinary treasures. Venture to Tacos Tumbras a Tomas for massive, flavor-packed tacos, or peruse Sarita's Pupuseria for traditional Salvadoran pupusas that will certainly satiate your craving for authentic cuisine. As you're wandering through the market, keep an eye out for hidden lower-level establishments offering craft coffees and unique desserts that are sure to pique your interest.
Discovering Quiet Corners in the Heart of the City
Despite the urban hustle, Downtown LA offers tranquil alcoves where you can retreat and unwind. One such spot, the hidden rooftop garden at the South Park Center, is a sanctuary with lush greenery and breathtaking skyline views. Not far from there, take a leisurely stroll around the James Irvine Japanese Garden, an oasis tucked behind the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center. These quiet retreats create the perfect setting for relaxation amid your city adventure.
Anonymous Insights into the Arts District
The Arts District, known for its vibrant murals and artisan culture, holds numerous secrets only locals might share. To get the true taste of La La Land's edgy, creative side, consider chatting on the Kikihub platform for anonymous tips on unlisted gallery shows, underground performances, and secret warehouse parties. Discover "The Container Yard," an artistic haven within multicolored shipping containers, where both visual artists and culinary experts frequently converge to produce unforgettable experiences not advertised on mainstream platforms.
Navigating the City's Best-Kept Food Secrets
No mention of local travel tips in Downtown LA would be complete without revealing its gastronomic pearls. Seek out Pizzanista!, a local favorite renowned for its skate-culture vibe and inventive slices, or head to a nameless, speakeasy-like entrance leading you into the Hell's Chicken L.A. for some of the best spicy fried chicken you'll ever taste. Additionally, don't miss out on travelling along the spring street for a mix of ethnic bites—Jalisco Tacos and Verdugo Bar are unmarked but widely celebrated food joints recommended by in-the-know locals.
Exploring The Forgotten Corners of The Historic Core
The Historic Core, rich with architectural marvels and classical theaters, offers a glimpse into LA's golden past. A lesser-known yet compelling adventure involves taking an unofficial tour of forgotten spaces, like the old Hamburger Department Store now converted into unique lofts and mixed-used facilities. For vintage film buffs, anonymous insights can lead you to impromptu meet-ups beneath the neon glow of The Orpheum Theatre, where many historic (yet often overlooked) film shoots have taken place. To get the most authentic experience, tune into Kikihub for guides who can provide the most exclusive tips on navigating this historically rich neighborhood.
Cultural Experiences You'll Only Hear From Locals
A final stop for an immersive experience is Little Tokyo, where blending tradition with modernity creates a special allure. Most travelers will gravitate towards popular spots like the Japanese Village Plaza, but for an authentic experience, dive into hushed hideaways like Far Bar, a low-key venue providing an enchanting blend of Japanese and American culture through its ambiance and menu. Moreover, local favorites like Daikokuya Ramen offer a dining experience often overshadowed by more commercial locations.
