Celebrating 60 Years of the Century City Shopping Center
From the debut of the Music Center downtown to the construction of the new LACMA on the Miracle Mile, Los Angeles was on a building boom in 1964. An entire new district came online in Century City, transforming 176 acres on the westside into offices, shops, and a grand hotel.
The city was in the midst of creating epic monuments in what some observers have called the era of ‘Imperial Los Angeles.’ At the same time that L.A. art and culture were elevated to new heights, Century City debuted its landmark shopping center, now operated by Westfield, which is set to celebrate its 60th anniversary October 12-13.
