Reframing Dioramas: The Art of Preserving Wilderness The Natural History Museum is famous for its life-size diorama halls, displaying over 75 different habitats representing global ecosystems including the Arctic tundra, the jungles of Tanzania, and the Great Plains of North America. To honor the 100th anniversary of the dioramas, the NHM will reopen a diorama hall that has been closed for decades. The Worldâs Largest Rubber Duck Is Waddling Its Way To New York Itâs a bird, itâs a plane, no itâs actually the worldâs largest rubber duck (so technically I guess it is a bird) and itâs making a splash in New York from August 16-18 at Playland Amusement Park! To share with you the sheer size of this ducky, it towers six stories high, reaching more than a whopping 61 feet. But this duck is not alone. Sheâs accompanied by her duckling, also known as Timmy. But little Timmy is only tiny to Mama Duck as he stands 10 feet tall.

The Big Button Playfully representing the theme of the neighborhood it sits in, The Garment District, the newly unveiled âThe Big Buttonâ sculpture aims to tell the tale of this historic area. This piece of art was a staple in Midtown for over 30 years before eventually receiving a recent facelift. It stands at 28 feet tall with a 15-foot diameter aluminum button and 32-foot brushed stainless-steel needle. The pop art ârepresents NYCâs prominent fashion industry and serving as a beloved symbol of our neighborhood and its rich history,â according to Barbara A. Blair, president of the Garment District Alliance.

Cosima von Bonin brings fish to life in âWHAT IF THEY BARK?â as fish wear theatrical costumes, play musical instruments, and hold checkered missiles. The hilarious reenactment of ancient Greek temple statues as sea creatures is playful and good for a laugh. Cosima von Bonin is a conceptual artist working across painting and sculpture. Von Bonin is a collectorâof found objects, materials, images, stories, and references that she assembles with irreverence and dark humor. While in her early paintings the artist used found fabrics to compose scenes populated with beloved Looney Toons and Disney characters, in more recent sculpture installations she focuses on more generalized myths, historical figures, and pop culture references, from Pinocchio to Jacques Lacan. For many years, she created plush, colorful ocean creatures, a series of works that talks about the human destruction of the natural world found underwater.

100 Larger Than Life Indian Elephants Are Migrating Across The U.S. To NYC! The elephants arenât real, of course. Rather itâs a herd of 100 life-size elephant statues. Dubbed The Great Elephant Migration, the installation is âa global fundraising adventure to amplify indigenous knowledge and inspire the human race, to share spaceâ. The Great Elephant Migration is a collaboration between indigenous artisans, contemporary artists, and cultural institutions, thatâs set to raise millions of dollars to power human-wildlife coexistence projects and protect migratory animals. And, just like migratory elephants in real life, the heard of elephant statues are migrating their way across the U.S.âtheyâre currently taking up residence in Newport, Rhode Island, and will migrate their way to NYC on Friday, September 6th where theyâll reside until October.

Baby Tree Kangaroo At The Bronx Zoo Makes Its Debut Appearance Exciting news over at the Bronx Zoo with the first appearance of a 7-month-old tree kangaroo peeking out of its motherâs pouch. The baby Matschieâs tree kangaroo was born in December, but at birth, Joeyâs are only the size of a human thumbnail and immediately crawl into their motherâs pouch. On average, it takes a baby kangaroo seven months to emerge from their motherâs pouch where majority of its physical development happens, so the baby is right on time!
