PIER 97 is NOW OPEN at Hudson River Park: New York City’s newest recreational and lounging green space!!!
Designed by !melk, Pier 97 features a playground with water spray features, a synthetic turf field, a sloping sun lawn, sculptural shade structures, an elevated walkway with seating, an “all-ages” slide and a sunset deck complete with bistro tables, chaise lounges and two-tiered walls with seating. The pier also features flexible gathering areas surrounded by flowers and plants to provide space for organized or impromptu events.

History: Hudson River Park’s northernmost pier was built between 1921 and 1934, and then served for decades as the hub for the Swedish America Line. While it remained an active dock through the 1970s, Pier 97 was used as a parking lot by the City of New York Department of Sanitation until 2011.

Hours: Open daily 6 AM - 1 AM

If live performances are more your style, don’t miss the Chinese Theatres that offer traditional Chinese opera and stunning acrobatic shows. These performances are a spectacular display of skill and tradition, bringing an authentic touch to your Chinatown experience.

For a more laid-back entertainment option, check out the many karaoke bars scattered throughout Chinatown. These vibrant spots are perfect for singing your heart out with friends or making new ones in this lively neighborhood.

Chinatown's Nightlife: Where to Go When the Sun Goes Down

As the sun sets, Chinatown's nightlife comes alive, offering an array of options for those looking to unwind and socialize. One popular spot is Apotheke, a hidden gem located on Doyers Street. This speakeasy-inspired cocktail bar serves up unique, handcrafted drinks with a mysterious and enchanting ambiance.

For those who enjoy a livelier scene, head to the Peking Duck House. While known for its mouth-watering cuisine, this establishment transforms into a bustling nightlife spot with music, dancing, and plenty of opportunities to socialize with fellow revelers.

Community Events That Bring Chinatown to Life

For a taste of tradition, visit one of the numerous tea houses such as Ten Ren Tea & Ginseng Co. Here, you can enjoy a serene atmosphere while sipping on a freshly brewed cup of tea and engaging in meaningful conversations.

For a more modern take on socializing, the Mahjong parlors are a unique experience. These venues offer a fun way to engage with the local community while learning the intricacies of this traditional Chinese game.

While Chinatown is home to many well-known attractions, there are also a plethora of hidden gems that offer a more intimate and local experience. One such treasure is the Chinatown Fair Family Fun Center. This classic arcade has been an integral part of the community for decades, offering a nostalgic blend of old-school video games and modern attractions.

Another lesser-known spot is the Mahayana Buddhist Temple, the largest Buddhist temple in New York City. Located on the corner of Canal Street and the Manhattan Bridge, this peaceful sanctuary provides a tranquil escape from the bustling streets outside.
