Tulisoma, which means “we read” in Swahili, is a community-based festival aimed at promoting literacy and the arts in South Dallas and the Fair Park area. It’s made with Rum, Kahlua, Brandy, Amaretto liqueur, Coffee, and homemade Whipped Cream. It’s delicious & the star of the show every time✨ Minimum order of 2 but you won’t regret it! Sunset Soiree at Kaleidoscope Park When Kaleidoscope Park officially opens on Saturday, Oct. 5, it will be the culmination of years of hard work and planning by the Kaleidoscope Park Foundation and its volunteers, as well as its partners at Communities Foundation of Texas, the City of Frisco and HALL Park. It is only fitting, therefore, that those founders and the entities who have sponsored and funded the development of this world-class art and horticultural destination be feted at a ticketed party prior to the official Grand Opening. On Friday, Oct. 4, guests will be treated to the Sunset Soirée: A Walk in the Park at Frisco’s Kaleidoscope Park. This first-look event offers a curated guest list the chance to stroll the park and hear from those who were fundamental in its creation and completion. After arriving at the new HALL Park, guests will have the opportunity to stroll the park while enjoying small bites donated by Vestal’s Catering, gelato provided by Gelato la Boca, beer provided by Rollertown Beerworks, cocktails by Socorro Tequila, and spectacular sips of HALL Wines donated by Craig and Kathryn Hall. Guests at the ticketed event will have the first official chance to view Janet Echelman’s magnificent Butterfly Rest Stop, the largest and most important piece of public art to debut in North Texas in years. In keeping with the bridge that Frisco has built between art and technology, the evening will end with a drone show presented by North Texas’ Sky Elements.

FRISCO OKTOBERFEST The 5th annual Frisco Oktoberfest includes authentic Oktoberfest music and dancing, a variety of local shops and businesses, traditional German cuisine, stein hoisting competitions, keg rolling contests, stein races, an official brat eating competition and plenty of beer. Festivities are taking place Saturday, October 5th from 11am-9pm at The Star! Enjoy all your favorite German cuisine, cheering on the stein hoisting competitors in the Biergarten, browsing the local vendors, participating in Oktoberfest games, dancing the chicken dance and drinking delicious Oktoberfest bier! HENOSIS This weekend, the HighArt Foundation is hosting HENOSIS, a show centered on classical vocal performance. The show title means “unity” in Greek, symbolizing the group performance of art, opera, classical, and spiritual music. The proceeds from the show will be donated to the foundation, which will use them to provide scholarships to young, aspiring musicians. HAF founder, NaGuanda Nobles, an internationally acclaimed lyric soprano, along with a wondrous assemblage of artists, will edify the souls of the listeners with operatic, classical, and gospel genres. The concert title, HENOSIS, is a Greek word that means “unity” and this concert is sure to please the musical palates of fans of the fine arts and introduce new listeners to these timeless art forms. Shine Performing Arts Center presents Mary Poppins One of the most popular Disney movies of all time is capturing hearts in a whole new way: as a practically perfect musical! Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's Mary Poppins delighted Broadway audiences for over 2,500 performances and received nominations for nine Olivier and seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The show runs July 12 through July 28. Performances will be Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm, and Sundays at 2:30pm. Reserved seating tickets are $26 for adults and children. Children under the age of 3 are not permitted.

Thrillers, documentaries and kabuki: The inside scoop on this year’s Asian Film Festival of Dallas The Asian Film Festival of Dallas kicks off its 4-day run at Dallas’ Angelika Theater on Thursday. The festival returns to the basics in this 23rd edition delivering over two dozen drama, action, thriller and documentary films about Asians and Asian Americans. Thomas Schubert, executive director of the festival, gives us the inside scoop on this year’s festivities including opening night, filmmakers in attendance and his “can’t miss” picks which include a swashbuckling kabuki play captured on film. The 23rd annual Asian Film Festival of Dallas will take place between July 25th-28th.

For the first time, the traditional Battle of the Burgers at Rodeo Goat is raising money for a good cause. Through July 31, the restaurant’s Radio G.O.A.T. and Birria Burger are the stars of the burger competition. For every vote they get, $1 goes to KERA, the community-supported radio station in North Texas. As of July 24, 11,441 votes had been cast. The creation is the Radio G.O.A.T., made with a beef patty, double pepper jack cheese, roasted green chiles, prickly pear barbecue sauce, cactus fries, and micro cilantro. As of July 24, this burger had 7,148 votes. Its competitor is the Birria Burger, which features a beef patty with birria de res, a corn tortilla, queso Oaxaca, radish slaw, and cilantro-avocado spread. As of Wednesday, it had 4,293 votes.
