Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest One of NYC’s favorite July 4th pastimes returns to Coney Island this week, where competitive food eaters will once again challenge each other in the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest. With both men’s and women’s competitions, there will be a huge race to see who can eat the most hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes! Although renowned champion and eater Joey Chestnut will not be competing in this year’s event, it’s still sure to be a raucous happening down in Coney Island.

The AYCD Boozy Baseball Saturday On summer Saturdays, The Brooklyn Cyclones offer a very special all-you-can-drink ticket option. Things get rowdy—and to add to the madness, some nights are themed (Margaritaville, Harry Potter, and Seinfeld are on the lineup). After the ninth inning, take a ride on the Wonder Wheel and feast on the vodka sauce square slice at L&B Spumoni Gardens.

Unveiling the Local Music Scene in NYC's Financial District
The Financial District in NYC is known for its bustling corporate atmosphere, but beneath the skyscrapers and busy streets lies a vibrant and eclectic music scene waiting to be discovered. The local music scene here isn't your typical tourist attraction; it's a hidden gem teeming with raw talent and unique music experiences that you won't find anywhere else in the city.
Trending Music Events
Kikihub users have highlighted that the Financial District hosts an array of trending music events that cater to various tastes. For jazz enthusiasts, the Sunday Jazz Brunch at Pier A Harbor House is a must-visit. This iconic event draws both locals and visitors who come for the live jazz performances, coupled with stunning waterfront views. For a more indie vibe, check out the monthly gatherings at 55 Wall Street, where emerging artists perform intimate acoustic sets in a historic setting. These events are not widely advertised, making them a perfect secret for music lovers in the know.
Music Hotspots to Explore
The Financial District is home to several music hotspots that are well worth exploring. The Oculus, famously known for its architectural splendor, also plays host to a variety of music events. In the evenings, it transforms into a vibrant music venue, with everything from classical string quartets to modern electronic beats filling the air. Stone Street, another local favorite, is lined with bars and pubs that feature live music on weekends. Among these, Ulysses' Folk House stands out for its lively Irish folk sessions that transport you straight to Dublin.
Discover Local Artists
One of the best ways to dive into the Financial District's music scene is by discovering the local artists who call this area home. Kikihub users have reported that many solo artists and bands frequently play at smaller venues like The Dead Rabbit, a renowned bar famous for its cocktails and traditional Irish ambiance. Here, you can often catch impromptu performances by up-and-coming musicians looking to make their mark. Additionally, the Seaport District is another hub for local talent, hosting open-mic nights and artist showcases at rooftop venues such as the Rooftop at Pier 16.
Concerts You Can't Miss
If you’re a fan of larger venues, the Financial District occasionally hosts concerts that attract bigger names and crowds. Brookfield Place, known for its luxury shopping, also doubles as a concert venue, particularly during their summer music series. This event sees a mix of established artists and rising stars perform in an open-air setting that's perfect for enjoying a New York summer evening. South Street Seaport is another venue that frequently hosts concerts, making it a staple in the local music calendar that you shouldn't miss.
Inside Tips from Locals
For those looking for even more local insights, Kikihub's anonymous chat feature is an invaluable resource. Locals can often provide real opinions and secrets about the best times to catch a show, which underground venues are worth checking out, and even where to find free music events. For example, some users have noted that the lunchtime concert series at Zuccotti Park offers a great break from the workday, featuring a diverse lineup of performers. Another hidden gem is the pop-up concerts at Bowling Green Park, which happen sporadically but are always a treat when they do.
Whether you're a local looking to uncover new spots or a visitor wanting to experience something off the beaten path, the Financial District's music scene offers a myriad of opportunities for exploration and enjoyment. Use Kikihub to tap into this wealth of local knowledge and make the most of your musical journey in NYC.
