I saw this on a reel earlier today. while I think it would be impractical, I do find it to be reminiscent of the Winged Hussars of the Polish history. The winged Hussars broke the Ottoman empire's siege of Vienna in 1673. The winged hussars were a heavy calvery unit that used topography and the sun to surprise the Ottomans. They rode down a steep hill, with the sun behind them. Their attack broke the siege camp and scattered the Ottomans who were primarily foot soldiers. On a related note, the hussars are still an active military unit. The British also have a unit called the hussars, they are the Royal Hussars and they are the mounted soldiers you see in London or wherever the monarch needs a mounted escort.
