Discover the Charm of Joe Allen: A New York Theater Gem!
Avatar Infatuation

Infatuation

Joe Allen It's definitely a staple and an iconic place. I love it half for the musical flop posters that are everywhere, because I always see one that I haven't seen before. It always starts conversations with people who happened to see the two-week runs of random shows that are on the walls and just feel super storied. It's become more theater fans than theater people over the years, but it's real theater fans. It tends to be people who are frequenting [shows]; it feels authentic. And the food, it's really yummy. I think it's a really good pre and post-show place, particularly family-wise. It's a really good, storied, New York, capital N, capital Y kind of spot.

The Cheapest Drinks In NYC: Jimmy's Corner We’d come to this classic Times Square dive even if it weren’t for the $3.50 well drinks. The walls have boxing memorabilia (the founder used to be a coach), a neon jukebox plays soul hits, and you can spot the long-time bartenders in photos on the laminated tables in the back room. And the drinks? Small and icy, but very effective.

As the waterfall is tucked away and not easily visible from the street, its a fun surprise for little ones to learn of this “secret” waterfall in the city. WHEN: ⏰Open daily 8am - 8pm

Discover the Serene Beauty of NYC's Hidden Chinese Scholar’s Garden! 🌸
Avatar Little Kid Big City NEW YORK

Little Kid Big City NEW YORK

Hidden Gem in NYC - Chinese Scholar’s Garden 🌳 Summer is the perfect time to explore some of the city’s fabulous gardens. One of New York City’s greatest hidden gems is the Chinese Scholar’s Garden, located at Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden in Staten Island. The design is based on gardens from the Ming Dynasty in China, and one of the few authentic gardens that were built in America. All the materials you see here (including the rocks and the tiles on the floor!) were made or sourced in China. The Chinese Scholar Garden has much to explore! There are eight pavilions, three ponds with koi fish, a waterfall, and many picturesque areas, including the unique shaped doorways seen on this clip. It’s a treasure. Why a hidden gem? Because It’s hard to find it! The NYCSG is behind a stone wall and not visible from the road. To get to the entrance you must walk through a cottage. The sign marking this is small and easy to miss. It truly is hidden!

Sharing My Ramen Adventure at Ichiran! 🍜❤️
Avatar Natasha Surti

Natasha Surti

Ramen love with you ❤️ 🍽Where I went: Ichiran ✔️What I got: Classic Tonkotsu Ramen 💰What I paid: $18.90 ⠀ 🤔What I think: The setup of the restaurant in itself is extremely unique as they have individual booths where you have to order by filling out a form. They use this setup because they want the people who come to their restaurant to be able to focus on the flavor of the ramen without any distractions. Ichiran only serves tonkatsu ramen, and they've clearly mastered it. The broth is rich and perfectly seasoned, the pork is tender and tasty, the noodles are made to your texture preferences (here we went with firm), and of course the egg just adds an extra layer of flavor to the dish. Overall one of the better bowls of ramen you can get in NYC.

A Taste of Taiwan in Midtown: Xiao Long Bao at Din Tai Fung
Avatar Eater

Eater

Xiao long bao at Din Tai Fung Someone’s gotta do it: My best dish of the week comes from Din Tai Fung, the mammoth Midtown location that opened last week. Seating over 400 people at 135 tables, it’s a vast addition to city’s Taiwanese restaurant landscape. I especially loved the restaurant’s savory and delicate soup dumplings ($18 to $22), famously made with 18 folds (or 20, depending who you ask) stuffed with pork, chicken, or crab. I went to the original in Taipei in 2019 and when I tasted them a few days ago, they were like eating a memory.

Discovering Local Relaxation Spots in SoHo

SoHo, a vibrant neighborhood located in the Lower Manhattan area of New York City, is not only known for its art galleries and fashion boutiques but also for its hidden gems where one can unwind and rejuvenate. Whether you're a local resident or a visitor looking to escape the hustle and bustle, you'll find a myriad of options to relax and recharge. By connecting with locals through anonymous chat on Kikihub, you can uncover some of the best-kept secrets for relaxation and tranquility in SoHo.

Hidden Retreats: Sanctuaries of Calm in SoHo

Amidst SoHo’s bustling streets, intimate and hidden retreats offer serene environments for relaxation. One such place is the LaMont Spa, nestled discreetly on Prince Street. Known for its quiet, meditative ambiance and skilled masseuses, it is an oasis of calm where you can indulge in luxurious treatments. Locals often recommend their deep tissue massages for a truly revitalizing experience.

Freeman Alley Gardens is another local favorite, a peaceful botanical garden that rarely makes it onto tourist maps. It's perfect for those who want a brief, yet profound escape into nature. Wander through the lush greenery, sit by the small fountains, and let the sound of trickling water soothe your mind.

Trending Relaxation Spots: Where Locals Unwind

The trendy spots of SoHo for relaxation are not to be overlooked. The Air Room, located on a rooftop in West Broadway, combines panoramic city views with guided meditation sessions. It’s a leading spot for those who want to practice mindfulness while enjoying the urban skyline. Their sunset yoga classes are particularly popular among the locals.

Another trending relaxation spot is Grounded Coffee House. On the surface, it's a quaint coffee shop, but venture to their back garden, and you'll find hammocks, bean bags, and a tranquil environment that encourages you to slow down and breathe deeply. Many regulars use it as a midday retreat to recharge with a book or light conversation.

Local Relaxation Tips: A SoHo Resident’s Guide

Residents of SoHo vouch for simple yet effective relaxation tips that blend seamlessly with daily life. They recommend starting your day with a visit to Washington Square Park just a short walk from SoHo. Early morning Tai Chi sessions led by locals can help center your mind and body, setting a tranquil tone for the day.

Food also plays a role in relaxation, and insiders stress the importance of slow dining. Places like Raoul’s on Prince Street offer cozy settings for a leisurely meal. Enjoying their signature French dishes at a relaxed pace can enhance the overall dining experience and contribute to a sense of well-being.

Exploring Local Favorites: The Unseen SoHo

Elizabeth Street Garden is a hidden gem located in the heart of Nolita, just adjacent to SoHo. It’s an open-to-the-public sculpture garden where locals often come to read, meditate, or simply bask in the sun. The serene setting, replete with unique statues and abundant greenery, makes it a perfect spot to unwind.

The lesser-known SoHo Sanctuary on Mercer Street offers an array of wellness treatments focused on holistic healing. From personalized aromatherapy sessions to advanced skincare treatments, this sanctuary carries a storied reputation among SoHo’s relaxation aficionados. Locals praise its intimate atmosphere and the personalized care they receive.

Travel and Exploration: Finding Relaxation Across SoHo

If exploration is your path to relaxation, SoHo offers an array of options to wander and find peace. Canal Street Market serves as more than just a shopping destination. Off-peak hours see this market transform into a quiet space perfect for casual strolls and engaging with artisans and vendors. Many find the act of exploring the unique shops and talking to the artisans calming and rewarding.

Finally, a retreat into The Ear Inn on Spring Street should be on your list. As one of the oldest drinking establishments in NYC, it provides not only a piece of history but also a cozy environment where locals and travelers alike find a rare serenity away from the everyday chaos. Spending a quiet evening here, listening to live music, and sipping a drink embodies the essence of relaxation in SoHo.
