The AYCD Boozy Baseball Saturday On summer Saturdays, The Brooklyn Cyclones offer a very special all-you-can-drink ticket option. Things get rowdy—and to add to the madness, some nights are themed (Margaritaville, Harry Potter, and Seinfeld are on the lineup). After the ninth inning, take a ride on the Wonder Wheel and feast on the vodka sauce square slice at L&B Spumoni Gardens.

Brooklyn Crab: A Summery Waterfront Hangout
Avatar Infatuation

Where To Hang Out By The Water? When you want a reminder that it’s summer, head to the Brooklyn Crab! Look out at the water from Brooklyn Crab, and you’ll see giant container ships sitting on water that’ll remind you Brooklyn is certainly not a beach town. Even still, this Red Hook spot definitely feels summery—maybe it’s the fake sand or crab traps, which will take your mind off the fact that you’re next to warehouse parking lots. Order crab legs, popcorn shrimp, and a few pitchers of beer, and then take off your bib and play some cornhole. It’s also on the same block as Hometown Bar-B-Que, if you’re looking for surf and turf.

Where To Eat Hot Dogs In NYC? Plentiful, relatively cheap, and easy to eat as you jaywalk or wait for a bus, hot dogs are an essential part of New York City cuisine. And Chicago Dogs are officially part of New York City’s hot dog ecosystem, and the ones at Dog Day Afternoon in Windsor Terrace are some of the best. This kitschy little shop keeps a Vienna Beef diagram next to the register, so you can cross-check your dog and make sure it matches up. The poppyseed bun is especially soft and flavorful, and the combination of a Chicago dog with an orange whip on the sidewalk outside the restaurant is one of our favorite meals on a warm day.

If you’re looking for an impressive place to get a table when you didn’t plan weeks in advance, here is a great option. Noho’s C As In Charlie is one of those places that should be harder to get into, but we're grateful that it's not. A Delicious Discovery at Ras Plant Based in Greenwich Village
Avatar Infatuation

Infatuation

A vegan and a meat-eater enter a plant-based Ethiopian restaurant. A couple of hours later, they both leave completely satisfied—and with the newfound knowledge that vegan nacho cheese is far superior to the real (fake) stuff. Such miracles can happen at the second location of Ras Plant Based in Greenwich Village. The menu here is essentially the same as their original spot in Crown Heights, except for the injera nachos, which you must order, because that’s where that melty vegan cheese comes into play. Add on a few cocktails and a mercato platter, with lots of spongy injera for scooping up creamy ground chickpeas, and you’ve got a feast for friends who love legumes, and those who'd normally rather be eating meat.

Discover the Ultimate Carnitas Experience at Carnitas Ramirez in East Village
Avatar Infatuation

Infatuation

Carnitas Ramirez has us feeling as elated as we did after watching Dune: Part Two. The small East Village spot from Taqueria Ramirez specializes in carnitas, and they're worth the line you’ll have to wait in. The whole pig is cooked snout-to-tail in big steel vats just behind the counter, and you can pick which parts you want on each $5 taco. Grab at least a few surtida tacos—a multi-textural adventure with bits from the entire pig. For a more focused taco, we like the tender lengua and the savory chamorro. Get a $3 side of chicharron to crumble on top, and load up on the salsa verde at the salsa station.

The Best Late Night Food In NYC: Love Korean BBQ Is it lame to say that the name of this Koreatown restaurant is exactly how we feel about it? Yeah, but it’s too late now. Open until 4am on Friday and Saturday, this fun three-story place has spinning rainbow-colored lights, a bar in the basement, and DJs every weekend after 6pm. They have several combos ($109 to $229) to choose from, which come with a cornucopia of vegetables to throw on the grill. Our favorite is the one with both beef and pork. Add some smoky, peppery japchae and their custardy truffled steamed egg—we’d come here just for those two things.

Late Night Pizza Recommendation in New York: Lucia Pizza of Soho
Avatar Infatuation

Lucia Pizza of Soho This is New York, which means you don’t have to settle for a mediocre slice of pizza late at night—instead, you can get one of the best slices. Lucia Pizza's Soho location is open until 3am, Thursday through Saturday (1am during the winter months), and even if you're stumbling and bleary-eyed, you’ll appreciate the moment they take to shower your pizza with basil and parm. There are a lot of standout slices here, so we recommend getting a few—something with red sauce, then also the vodka sauce slice, or the creamed spinach one. It's 350 feet from the A/C at Canal Street, in case that's your next move.

Discover Hidden Gems in the Lower East Side

The Lower East Side, often abbreviated as LES, is one of New York City's most eclectic and vibrant neighborhoods. Whether you're a longtime resident or just visiting, this area offers a wealth of local secrets that can make your experience truly unforgettable. From food to culture, there's so much to explore. Let's dive into some local recommendations that will help you uncover the phenomenal aspects of the Lower East Side.

Local Food Recommendations

If you're a foodie, the Lower East Side is a paradise waiting to be explored. Though Katz's Delicatessen is a well-known highlight, there's much more to discover that will give you a true taste of local flavors. Essex Street Market is a must-visit spot for anyone interested in tasting a variety of local foods. Featuring cultural cuisines that span the globe, it’s a hub for gastronomic adventure. Stop by Saxelby Cheesemongers for some of the best artisanal cheeses, and don’t miss Arancini Bros for delicious Italian street food.

For those interested in Asian cuisine, Vanessa’s Dumplings on Eldridge Street offers mouthwatering dumplings at very affordable prices. Another hidden gem is Clandestino, a low-key bar that also serves excellent bites including delectable cheese boards and charcuterie.

Uncovering Street Art

The Lower East Side has long been a canvas for street artists. One local secret is the many vibrant murals that decorate the neighborhood’s walls, turning a casual stroll into an art gallery experience. Take a walk along Rivington Street to find breathtaking murals by globally renowned artists like Shepard Fairey and Tristan Eaton. Alternatively, the Freeman Alley walls are a mix of graffiti and commissioned murals that you won’t find listed in any tourist guide.

If you’re fascinated by street art, make sure to visit the LISA Project NYC, a community-based mural project that collaborates with top artists. Here, you'll find numerous murals spread throughout LES, each brimming with history and creative ingenuity. It's a constantly evolving landscape, ensuring that there’s always something new to discover.

Shopping and Boutiques

Shopping in the Lower East Side is a genuinely unique experience, far removed from the big brand stores dominating other parts of Manhattan. To get started, head to Orchard Street, which is home to numerous independent boutiques. From vintage finds at Assembly and James Veloria to the minimalist chic of Maryam Nassir Zadeh, there’s something for everyone.

Looking for some quirky and unique souvenirs? The Economy Candy store on Rivington Street has been a neighborhood staple since 1937. This old-school candy shop offers a nostalgic trip back in time, with an array of sweets you won't find elsewhere. Additionally, Lost Weekend NYC is a great spot to shop for surf-inspired lifestyle goods with a Lower East Side twist.

Music and Nightlife

When the sun sets, the Lower East Side comes alive with a vibrant nightlife scene, from live music to intimate bars. Nothing captures the essence of LES nightlife like Arlene’s Grocery, a former bodega turned intimate music venue showcasing emerging talents. The Bowery Ballroom on Delancey Street, another iconic spot, hosts a range of shows that attract big names and up-and-coming artists alike.

For a more relaxed yet extraordinary experience, visit the hidden rooftop bars like The Crown at Hotel 50 Bowery. Enjoy cocktails with an incredible view of the NYC skyline, an insider tip that most tourists miss. If you’re interested in craft cocktails, Attaboy on Eldridge Street offers a speakeasy vibe with custom-made drinks, ensuring an unforgettable night out.

Parks and Recreation

While the Lower East Side is renowned for its cultural and culinary experiences, it also offers serene green spaces perfect for relaxation. Sara D. Roosevelt Park is a beloved spot for locals, providing an excellent place for a picnic or casual stroll. Basketball courts and community gardens are just some of the amenities you'll find here. If you're looking for a spot to unwind, the park's lush landscape provides a delightful escape from the bustling city streets.

For families, the newly-renovated Seward Park on the eastern edge of the neighborhood offers an array of activities for children and adults alike. The park boasts a beautiful library, playgrounds, and plenty of seating areas where you can watch the world go by. Plus, it's an excellent starting point to explore the rich history of the LES.

There you have it—an insider’s guide to some of the best local recommendations in the Lower East Side. From delicious food and eclectic shopping venues to vibrant street art and thriving nightlife, this neighborhood is packed with hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Start exploring today and immerse yourself in the local secrets that make LES so unique.
